Our busy, independent restaurant serves modern European food, from a seasonally changing menu, accompanied by old world wines, in a relaxed atmosphere
The Circus Restaurant was created by husband and wife team, Alison and Geoffrey Golden. After both having careers in restaurants and catering, they bought The Circus in 2007, refurbished it and opened in January 2008.

“I have been a chef and owned my own restaurants now for thirty years and have learnt what makes a good dining experience. My three food guiding lights have been Elizabeth David, Jane Grigson and Joyce Molyneux. I have tried to follow their example of sourcing fantastic ingredients then cooking them simply, with respect for the essential flavours, while also putting my original stamp on many classical dishes and bringing them up to date.
Modern food writers like Diana Henry and Skye Gyngell are also big influences and have steered me to a healthier and lighter way of cooking using gluten-free, or no flour in most of my recipes." |
"Food that you really want to eat"
"Restaurants come and go but this one has proven serious staying power. It's consistently good" "The Circus manages to be posh but not in the slightest bit pretentious. Quality, seasonal food, cooked simply but very well" |
